About Your Session

The Experience

Sessions are relaxed, fast-paced and most of all fun.  Don’t expect any stiff or overly posed shots. Your images will be real and spontaneous. These are not your typical studio portraits.  My style is unique.  I use a photojournalistic approach to my photography.  I want to capture you, being just who you are. Just remember to keep an open mind.  I may ask to move some furniture around and don’t be surprised if I ask to move your couch outside.  I promise I will help put things back in order at the end of our session. I always welcome your ideas, so if you have something specific in mind, please share.

The Location

Your session can be held at the location of your choice.  Just about anything goes. If you need help with selecting your location let me know.  I love trying new places! Newborn sessions are held in your home.

Hair & Make-Up

Try to keep it simple. I may ask you to remove children’s bows or ponytails, please don’t be offended. Don’t forget to clean & trim everyone’s fingernails and toenails.

Illness

I do not want to photograph someone who isn’t feeling their best.  If someone is sick, please reschedule.  I will always reschedule newborn sessions if I am ill.

Maternity

I want mom to feel confident and beautiful.  I want to capture the glow, the excitement and the love that having a baby on the way brings.  If you wish to incorporate some bare belly images please do not wear anything with elastic on your belly for a few hours before your session.

Birth Day

I approach births with a photojournalist style…quiet, observing, unobtrusive and tasteful. I strive to capture the event as it is. There will be no posed shots.  I may need to make small lighting changes (opening blinds, moving lamps) and if I need to use a flash, I will only do so with mom’s permission. The comfort and health of mom and baby are my first priority. Photography at scheduled c-sections can only be done with special permission of your doctor and the hospital.

Newborns

Newborn sessions are for babies less than 2 weeks old. For a warm, sleepy, happy baby about an hour before I arrive, try this:

  • Turn up the heat or turn off the AC.
  • Undress the baby and wrap him/her in a blanket
  • If you do not want your baby photographed in the buff dress him/her in the outfit you want to start in.
  • Feed your baby until he/she is good and full. We can always stop for a feeding or two during the session, so try not to worry about keeping to a specific schedule.

I do not rush a newborn session and I will happily wait for you to nurse or take breaks as needed to calm your baby. Playing music or other white noise works wonders to drown out the noise from my clicking camera.

Children

This should be a fun experience for everyone! Please let me lead the way and I will ask you if I need your help. I will work at your child’s level and pace. Sometimes, we’ll work one-on-one, away from the pressures of “performing” for mom and dad. A favorite doll, a colorful toy, or other activities like bubbles, etc. are wonderful, too. It will help to make sure your child gets plenty of sleep the night before the session. A parent must always be present during the session. It is your responsibility to make sure kids stay safe and that babies are within your arms’ reach at all times.

Seniors

These images should capture you just as you are. We can visit 2-3 locations and I’m open to all kinds of ideas. I really want to show off your personality and your interests. If you play an instrument bring it. If you are in a sport lets include that too.

Engaged

There is nothing like the magic between a couple in love.  I want to capture your excitement as you get ready to start your lives together. Let’s show what makes you a unique couple in love.  This is a great time to try out an unusual location.  I also like to see your personalities come out through your choice in attire.

Bridals

Bridal sessions may be done before or after the wedding.  These are edgy, modern and dreamy. Some brides choose a “Trash the Dress” session.  This is definitely something to do after the wedding or with a substitute dress.  Here you can really take risks.  A stream, a construction site, a carnival, or any place you can think of. Just know that the dress will get dirty but you will walk away with amazing images.
